Channel Episode: Safety Tips for July 4th
Hi CatCrazies! Independence Day is just around the corner, and it’s time to celebrate! As we gear up for BBQs, margaritas, and fireworks, it’s important to remember that our festive fun can cause anxiety and fear in our beloved pets. Fireworks, in particular, can be overwhelming for cats, whose advanced hearing makes loud noises even more distressing.
As a proud American citizen who moved from Germany in 2000 with my two cats, Bubu and Oiseau Mouche, I love this holiday. But I also know the importance of keeping our furry friends safe and comfortable. Here are some tips to ensure your cat has a stress-free 4th of July while you enjoy the festivities.

Hi CatCrazies,
Independence Day is coming up and it’s time to celebrate!
July 4th holds a special place in American history as it marks the day the Declaration of Independence was adopted in 1776, officially establishing the United States as its own nation. It's a day worth celebrating, and personally, it's one of my favorite holidays alongside Thanksgiving.
I moved from Germany in 2000 with my two cats Bubu and Oiseau Mouche, and became a proud American Citizen 15 years later.
I love the BBQs, margaritas, ribs, and of course, the fireworks that come with July 4th. However, as much as I enjoy them, I can't ignore the fact that these fireworks will cause unnecessary anxiety, panic, and fear in animals outdoors, including our beloved pets indoors. So maybe DRONES are the answer in the future.
Almost every animal has a much more advanced sense of hearing than humans. To them, loud noises can be overwhelming and frightening. Many people believe that only DOGS are at risk of getting scared and running away on July 4th, but the same can happen to cats if the sounds are too loud.
So, how can you make sure your furry friends stay safe and happy during the holiday festivities while still having a good time yourself? Here are a few tips:
Set up a cozy hiding spot indoors for your furry friend: Keep your furry family member at home to ensure their safety, security, and peace of mind. Create a safe haven for your cat by placing a cozy cat bed under your bed, in the basement, or in the bathroom - wherever your cat typically seeks refuge when feeling scared. This way, they can hide away comfortably and feel reassured at the same time. Don't forget to include your cat's favorite toys, a tasty treat, and a cozy blanket with a heating pad for ultimate comfort during your celebration with family and friends.
Create a relaxing atmosphere by playing some soothing music. Try using Solfeggio frequency music at 528 hz, with the added bonus of gentle cat purrs in the background. If you don't have this type of music, you can always opt for white noise or search for it on YouTube. There are plenty of channels that offer hours of calming cat music for free including our CatCrazy Channel. We have a couple of videos with 9 hours of continuous zen music for cats.
Don't tie up your pet to prevent them from escaping during fireworks. The loud noises can scare them so much that they’ll try to run away. Cats can hurt themselves or even die if they try to escape while wearing a regular collar. And even if you use a breakaway collar, they might still manage to slip out and run off.
Calming supplements, pheromone diffusers, and aroma therapy specifically designed for cats are also a great solution for helping cats relax by calming their central nervous system. This can help your furry friend feel more at ease and comfortable.
The Two Crazy Cat Ladies have an awesome supplement called Cat Calm, and I’ll put a link to it in the description box below.Make sure your furry family members are microchipped and always wear up-to-date ID tags AND have a current picture of your cat in case you need to make any “missing cat” postings. This is the best way to ensure you’ll find them again if your pet ever gets lost.
If your pet goes missing, be sure to report it to your local animal care services department. This is usually the first place people check when searching for lost pets. Additionally, consider posting about your lost pet on social media and neighborhood apps like Nextdoor to increase the chances of finding them.
All in all, just use common sense and put yourself in the paws of your pet – what would YOU do if you experienced all this craziness without knowing what’s happening? Where would you go? Where would you hide? If you do THAT it’s already a big step towards helping your furry friend feel safe and secure in your home.
